Sound masking for chilled beam workplaces

Make controlled background sound part of the acoustic design for quiet, energy-efficient offices.

Quiet building services need deliberate acoustic planning

Passive chilled beam air conditioning can provide very little background sound. In these quiet spaces, conversations may travel further and become easier to understand.

Sound masking adds a controllable background sound, coordinated with absorption, partition performance and the layout of the workplace.

Coordinate ceilings and coverage

45dB reviews the reflected ceiling plan, exposed services, ceiling heights and room uses. Speaker coverage and zones are designed around the fit-out, with masking spectra and levels agreed against the acoustic brief.

Calibration verifies the installed sound in the rooms themselves. Networked controls support zonal management, while adaptive settings can be used where suited to the working environment.

Project experience

1 Elizabeth, Sydney: more than 3,000 speakers across 27 floors with exposed ceilings and chilled beams.
Commonwealth Bank — Darling Square: multi-zone adaptive masking coordinated with quiet passive chilled beam air conditioning.
